Going ‘Green’ with Gallina
The Polycarbonate sheets and systems leaders
Gallina has been at the forefront of green design for architecture. The production process begins with using up to 20% polycarbonate regrind material. The regrind is material produced during production. In the production located in Janesville, Wisconsin, Gallina has a machine that can regrind up to 1,000 pounds of scrap polycarbonate an hour. This regrind is then stored and re-used during production.
Gallina has adopted the same environmentally friendly process as outlined in ISO 14001. Even though we are not yet certified, our production process does meet the same requirements as outlined in ISO 14001. This means during the production process, Gallina does not emit any harmful toxins into the environment. Gallina uses a sealed water cooling system that filters the water repeatedly. This water is then reused many times before changing.
Gallina polycarbonate panels are 100% recyclable. This means at the end of their useful life, the panels can be replaced with new ones, while the old ones can be taken to the local recycling center to be ground and used in other materials. During installation, any scrap material can be recycled, instead of thrown in the normal trash dumpster.
Gallina polycarbonate panels are an energy efficient alternative to glass. The multi-wall design of the panels, in most cases, offer an insulation value that is better than glass. Multi-wall polycarbonate panels are also 200 times stronger and lighter than glass. The structure required to hold the panels, can be considerably less than for glass. Multi-wall polycarbonate is translucent and can let in as much as 80% of the visible light, depending on the thickness, color, and layer structure of the panel. The building can use less energy during the day, by allowing natural light into the interior.
The use of Gallina multi-wall polycarbonate panels and systems can offer an innovative design idea to the growing architectural market. By using multi-wall polycarbonate panels as interior design, the overall aesthetics of the space can be different.
